Boston Celtics have arrived
One of the greatest rivalries in the history of basketball is between LA Lakers and Boston Celtics. A few weeks ago I wrote about the resurrection of the team based in California, so now it seems only right to write about their greatest competitor, Boston Celtics.
In the last season, the team coached by Brad Stevens surprised everyone with its playoff run, when without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, they managed to get into the Eastern Conference Finals. After a long, consuming series, the Boston Celtics were defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, with the score of 4-3. However, in the summer LeBron James left the East for the first time in his career, so the Boston Celtics became favorites forgetting into the NBA Finals.
The new season started and Irving & Co. didn’t seem to get along well so they had a few tough games. They were losing really bad and even Paul Pierce, the Celtics legend, called the team “the biggest disappointment of the season”. The players, starting with Kyrie Irving, became more and more frustrated with the way they were playing, while Brad Stevens was accused of not knowing how to properly use Gordon Hayward.
In spite of all these problems, the veterans continued to be confident in the team’s potential, while the young guys kept working hard. The players remained patient, and this aspect paid off. The Boston Celtics beat New Orleans Pelicans, a strong team led by Anthony Davis and they followed it with a 33-point win against Cleveland Cavaliers. The fans got involved too so the Boston Celtics continued their good form and they are currently on an 8 wins streak. The relations in the game are getting stronger and stronger, while the help from the young players is becoming more consistent.
Therefore, the Boston Celtics are starting to show us how good they can be, while also being a big threat to the Toronto Raptors. Now, the question is: Can they actually keep this style of playing even when injuries will appear?
