EuroLeague should try to become a more ethical organization
A couple of days ago I read an article on Basketnews and was shocked but not because Vilnius municipality doesn’t want to help with money for the Final 4 of the Euroleague. I was surprised that the Euroleague is trying to organize the Final 4 at the expense of other institutions, teams, and cities. Still, they won’t contribute at all financially to the event.
Zalgiris Kaunas has to host the Final 4 at their expense, but the tickets will be sold by the Euroleague, who will place also only their advertising there. So, what is won by the organizers? They have to work a lot, they have to cover all the expenses of the Final 4 and so on and actually the Euroleague will take all the money from tickets and advertising. This is absolutely ridiculous, especially when you think that Zalgiris is not a rich club to spend millions without gaining anything.
Definitely, Euroleague has to change their view and leave over their greedy mentality. They look like a Wall Street institution that has a unique purpose: socializing the losses and keeping the whole profit. This is a primitive way of dealing with sports and with any idea of organizing events. Euroleague is making all the money, while the organizing team has to support all the costs. It is insane and inhuman. The pure mirror of exploiting people. And this is made by a sports institution that has named their hymn “Devotion”. They only forgot to place their slogan: In greed we trust!
