Fenerbahce – Efes, an important derby for the EuroLeague playoffs

If Fenerbahce will win today in the Turkish encounter of the Euroleague, they will have 11 consecutive victories which is huge. After starting very bad the season, Fenerbahce recovered and now they are aiming for a playoff spot – what seemed impossible 3 months ago. Their opponents, Anadolu Efes were seen as a title contender at the beginning of the season, since they occupied last year the 1st spot in the rankings when Euroleague decided to stop the competition due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

During the summer, many specialists saw Anadolu Efes as one of the main favourites to win the Euroleague together with FC Barcelona, but then the things complicated for the Turkish powerhouse. The absence of some players affected their game but then they start to recover looking with hope for the playoffs.

Today’s game is a very important one for both teams involved because the situation is very tied with ambitious squads coming into the mix for the last spots of the regular season. Valencia Basket is one of them and they proved their value by destroying Zenit Sankt-Petersburg yesterday in Russia. Zalgiris Kaunas and Baskonia too will fight to get into the playoffs and my curiosity is to see if two Turkish clubs will advance or only one.

Definitely a great battle nice to watch for all the basketball fans not only in Turkey but in the whole of Europe.
