Only 6 players + 3 referees were enough for Dinamo Sassari

Yesterday, Dinamo Sassari won big time against Iberostar Tenerife. This result was not possible with a correct arbitration. In spite of many wrong decisions against them from the start of the game, the Spanish team put up a solid margin (35-23) in the first half, entering with a 49-40 advantage in the 3rd quarter. Then, hell has begun, but the seeds for this have already the roots in the first half.

Dinamo Sassari came into this game without Filip Kruslin and Stefano Gentile, with a very short rotation. They had only 5 foreigners plus Marco Spissu and the old Giacomo de Vecchi (who had 1 point, 1 assist and 1 rebound as average before this game). In these circumstances how to resist in front of Iberostar Tenerife, currently no. 2 in Spain?

But with the referees, everything is possible. From the first minutes, they had 2 different approaches: calling much more fouls on normal plays against Tenerife and closing their eyes on the savage defense made by Sassari. Soon, coach Txus Vidorreta received his technical foul and then he sat down calmly for the entire game, not risking the second one. The referees prevent the fouls trobles for Sassari, but even so a tragic event happened for the home side: Vasa Pusica injured after only 4 minutes of play and he was not able to continue. So the rotation for Sassari became even shorter, only 6 players.

After the halftime, what some people are calling the “monumental 3rd quarter” of Sassari was actually a storm by a team propelled by the refs at any decision against a team that looked helpless while they were stolen. The partial run of 27-4 was the result of the wings gave by the referees to Dinamo Sassari.

And then, at the end of the encounter, the referees – in order to look like they were very correct – balanced the number of the fouls, eliminating Miro Bilan (Sassari) and punishing him with a technical foul too. That was the confirmation the refs were trying to sweeten the deal.

This game proved that you can resist in 6 players even against a great team like Iberostar Tenerife if you have also 3 sharp referees in the roster. They could do miracles!
