The reconstruction of Brose Bamberg will be hard
Our today`s attention turns to the nine-time German Champions, Brose Bamberg. After a disappointing 2018-2019 season, with a first-round German play-offs elimination and the big loss against Antwerp Giants in the battle for the 3rd place in Champions League, they started a new era with big changes among players and coach.
The first move was to bring in the coach Roel Moors, the main reason for Antwerp`s success last year. This is only the second team in Moors`s coaching history and he moved to Germany to orchestrate Brose`s future.
Then, alongside Roel, Brose brought Paris Lee (24 years-old, 1.83m, PG), the best player for Antwerp last year. He averaged 12.9 points, 5.9 assists and 1.9 steals. He confessed that his coach from Antwerp influenced his decision to join the German team, so the happy story may continue for both of them. The next player brought was Kameron Taylor (24 years-old, 1.98m, G) from PVSK-Panthers (Hungary). He had very impressive numbers last year, averaging 19.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.2 steals, but it`s interesting to see if he can put those big numbers in a better league.
Coty Clarke (27 years-old, 2.01m, F) from Buducnost was the next addition to the squad. He averaged 6.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29 Euroleague games last season. Another player that signed with Brose was Tre Mclean (25 years-old, 1.96m, F). He played last year for Avtodor Saratov where he averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds and in the second part of the season, he switched to another VTB team, Parma Perm, where he averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in the last 8 Perm`s games in VTB.
The last important player added was the Egyptian international, Assem Marei (27 years-old, 2.06m, C). He came from Turkish side Pinar Karsiyaka and signed a two-year deal. He had very good numbers last year in TBL, where he averaged 17.9 points and 9.9 rebounds. The last players signed by Brose Bamberg are the youngsters Aleix Font from Barcelona II and Nelson Weidemann from Bayern II and Sengfelder Christian (Braunschweig).
This year won`t be a shining year for Brose Bamberg. They added some players, but from small teams or lower leagues than German league. When we compare the players they lost Nikolaos Zisis, Tyrese Rice, Patrick Heckmann, Augustine Rubit, Cliff Alexander, Ricky Hickman, Arnoldas Kubolka and Daniel Schmidt with the new ones, I honestly can`t see how they can replicate last year 5th place in German league regular season or the BasketballCL Final Four. But, if they can to that, all the credit will go to the new coach, Roel Moors, who made the young Antwerp team to play a very efficient and wonderful basketball last season.
