Top 3 powerhouses of the Eurobasket 2022

Eurobasket 2022 is about to begin and it will be the best edition in its history with so many NBA players.

Even if Slovenia is seen by many as a big favourite to repeat the title won back in 2017, I don’t think they have a chance. For many reasons:

  • The big men duo, Gasper Vidmar and Anthony Randolph will not play this time. Their replacement is Mike Tobey, who is a great player but won’t be able to defend Jokic, Gobert or Antetokounmpo.
  • Goran Dragic, who was the last-time MVP of the Eurobasket is 36 years old and he is not able to play at the same intensity.
  • In 2017, Slovenia was a true underdog, nobody gave them a credit to win the tournament and this was of great help for them. They surprised Spain in the semifinals and then with a bit of luck defeated Serbia in the game title. Now, everybody is afraid of Slovenia and Luka Doncic and the defense will be stronger.
  • In the last game played a couple of days ago against Germany, Slovenia was destroyed by 20 points and you could see there what will happen at the Eurobasket. I think Slovenia won’t reach even the semifinals.

The real candidates for the trophy are Serbia, Greece and France with great coaches and a deeper roster, including many experienced players from NBA and Euroleague. Maybe, Germany playing at home can hope for a medal too. Lithuania is also a good team that can make problems for any opponent.
