Totally unfair: Real Madrid gave Baskonia a playoff spot
Yesterday on Twitter, Derrick Williams reacted to the Real Madrid absences against Baskonia. Walter Tavares, Felipe Reyes and Facundo Campazzo were rested for this game, meanwhile, Gabriel Deck was out with injury. The Twitt of Derrick Williams was an anticipation of the non-combat encounter that had the only meaning to qualify Baskonia to the playoffs.
If Real Madrid needed it, they would be destroyed Baskonia yesterday. Baskonia due to many injuries is at the moment one of the weakest team ever in the Euroleague. They travelled go and back to Athens this week to face Panathinaikos so they were very tired compared to Real Madrid who played at home against Olimpia Milano and then went 300 km to Vitoria-Gasteiz.
But instead of a stunning win, Real Madrid decided to slow it down and make a nice gift to the Basque community: the playoff ticket! Unfair for Olimpia Milano who struggled 2 days ago to win it! Unfair for Bayern Munich and other candidates for a playoff spot. But this is “greatness”: to qualify which team do you want! You are tired and you rest your players and that’s it. No matter that Baskonia has the weakest and mediocre roster in their history! They will be in the playoff and other teams much better than Baskonia, who invested more money and had better rosters won’t be there.
It’s not even about resting some players. It’s actually about that Real Madrid did anything possible to lose last night: they started in a weak formula the game, they played without motivation, they allowed Baskonia 20 offensive boards and a total of 50 rebounds compared with 35 made by the visitors. Embarrassing! From the 1st minutes of the game, you could see that Baskonia has to win and you could bet your house on this!
