Virtus Bologna at its lowest: only 61 points scored in a home game

After the game lost to Pistoia last week, some autistic friends of the Bologna’s players found stupid excuses like “it was just a game”. But this loss against Brindisi is even more pathetic for a squad like Virtus Bologna. Don’t come to me with “we are in the Final 4 of Basketball Champions League” story. I don’t swallow this fake pill (and thousands of fans of the club agree with me).

The BCL Final 4 presence it cannot be an excuse for missing Italian league playoff. On the contrary, it’s a shame to reach that level in the continental competition and not focus on the domestic league. That proves once again the low discipline of the American mercenaries of the group.

Now becomes clear why Pino Sacripanti couldn’t do anything with these players. And even a better coach like Sasha Djordjevic couldn’t do much more. It’s not his fault that he has to work with “this roster”. He needs smart, unselfish and motivated players and he has not many of them.

But let’s take some facts from the game lost against Brindisi:

  • Kelvin Martin is the shadow of the player who was last year with Vanoli Cremona. At the beginning of the season, he looked like a big acquisition for Virtus Bologna, but after missing a couple of games with an injury he is not the same player.
  • Tony Taylor and Mario Chalmers are far away from their potential and it seems they are performing every game worse. Bad decisions, worst timing in offense, low-level basketball
  • the 3 points percentage is awful: yesterday just Amath M’Baye was decent, scoring 2 from 5, but the rest of the team had 1 from 12 from the arc
  • the same bad percentage was visible also on 2 points range: under 49% and at free-throws: 55.5%
  • it’s clear that the problems with the team’s chemistry are affecting all the players, creating a global lack of efficiency
