Debrecen and Miskolc to host the 2024 European University Games

The start of the 2024 European University Games is less than two weeks away. After the last edition was organized by Poland in Lodz in 2022, this time the host country is Hungary and the venues will be Debrecen and Miskolc.
It will be the sixth edition of the EUG which started in 2012 and over 4500 athletes are expected to participate this year as they will compete in 17 different sports, including 3×3 Basketball, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball, Chess, Football, Futsal, Handball, Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo.
Like at the Olympic Games, we will have 3×3 and 5 on 5 basketball at the EUG. The 3×3 competition for men and women will begin on the 12th of July. It will take place in Debrecen, a traditional host for the most powerful 3×3 competitions in the world, like the FIBA Europe Cup, youth World Cup and of course, the World Tour where Debrecen is a yearly host city. The 5 on 5 competition for men and women will be held in Miskolc starting on the 18th of July.
Two years ago in Lodz, the men’s basketball tournament was won by Beykent University from Turkey, who defeated Vytautas University (Lithuania). At the women’s competition, the winner was Pitesti University from Romania.
It’s also worth noting that there was a European Universities Championship for basketball organized in Aveiro last year, where 20 Universities from 12 different countries participated. University of Bologna won the title at the men’s competition, while at the women’s University of Vienna became champions.
