Estudiantes – Iberostar Tenerife cancelled after Todorovic’s injury. How silly is that?

Yesterday, in the second quarter of the friendly encounter between Estudiantes and Iberostar Tenerife, Dejan Todorovic got seriously injured and he will miss a couple of months. This a bad news for all but I didn’t understand why the entire game was cancelled. Injuries happened and will happen daily in the basketball world. You want to make a dunk, the opponent is trying to block you, you can fall and broke your knee. This kind of things happens maybe 300 times during a season.

I could understand cancelling the game because the floor had some problems, maybe too slippy, but this wasn’t the case. I think players and the staff of the teams become too vulnerable, too sensible now, during the Coronavirus break and they start acting like scared kids instead of being strong men.

If a teammate got injured, you can be there trying to offer your help, but the medical staff has to give the necessary treatment. The teammates are not doctors, their job is not a nursing job, but to continue to play. Where the hell in the world a game was cancelled because a player was injured. It could be Michael Jordan, Kobe or Lebron, it doesn’t matter. The game has to be played till the end, it is part of the training program. There is no reason to be cancelled.

Players can injure and will injure anytime. Let’s say it could be understandable if 6 players from the whole team got injured, then yes, maybe you have a reason to cancel the encounter. Or if you see that the level of aggressivity is growing too much, but this was not happening in the friendly game between Estudiantes and Tenerife. These teams are not big rivals, they are not hating each other, so cancelling the game remains a mystery for the basketball world.
