EuroCup Rising Star candidates: Ismael Kamagate, Paris Basketball

This Eurocup season was interesting especially because of the young talents, many of them having an important role in their teams. One of the candidates for Rising Star is the player from Paris Basketball, Ismael Kamagate.

Born on January 17, 2001, the player with Ivorian origins has been sensational so far. In 18 matches played this season of the Eurocup in just 23 minutes, he has 9.2 ppg with a huge 75.9% at 2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for a PIR of 16.9. In the 6th round against Hamburg, he had 12 points with 19 rebounds; the 11th round brought another very good performance against Hapoel Tel Aviv with 17 points and 12 rebounds, 7 offensive; with Trento in the 12th round, he achieved another double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds. In LNB Pro A, the best performance was in the 21st round with Pau-Orthez with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

On July 27, 2019, Kamagate signed with Paris Basketball of the LNB Pro B. He became the fifth player in league history with at least nine blocks in a game. On June 23, 2022, Kamagate was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 46th pick. He was then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and then to the Denver Nuggets. At the 2021 FIBA U20 European Challengers, he averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds.

A player with a good understanding of the game, he has greatly improved his shot mechanics this season and chooses his shots very carefully. Due to his athleticism, he manages to rebound the balls quite easily and has many block shots. He has proven to be one of the biggest defensive walls and a dominant force in the paint.

This season, he proved to those in Denver that they should give him a chance for a place in the NBA team. If he manages to extend his shooting range, he will certainly become a really interesting player for many important teams.
