Is Alex Abrines a good choice for F.C. Barcelona?
F.C. Barcelona had a good year so far. They won Copa del Rey in Madrid, they were close to entering in the Euroleague Final 4 and also in the domestic league they finished second the regular season. But these results are not enough for the Catalan club who is already targeting strong players for the next season. They aim to build a better roster for 2019-2020 and one of their choices is Alex Abrines.
I know that some F.C. Barcelona fans are not very fond of Alex Abrines, but let me explain something to them: the Spanish shooting guard is not the same from 2016 when he left the Blaugrana club to join the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder. For 3 reasons:
- when he previously played with F.C. Barcelona, Abrines was a “child” who has improved his stats every season but didn’t reach yet the maturity. When this season will start Abrines will be 26 years old, the perfect age to show his potential
- in the past, at F.C. Barcelona, Abrines was not played at his highest potential because there, at that moment, Juan Carlos Navarro was the most dominant figure of the team and many offensive strategies were based on him, not on other players.
- By now, Abrines has spent 3 years in the NBA and this was a huge experience for him. Definitely, he has become a much better player than before and could be one of the best in the Euroleague.
Last but not least, Alex Abrines is a Spanish player and I think it’s better for any club in Spain to have him in their roster because it will contribute a lot to the organization image. The local players are giving more visibility for the club and maybe he can make history in Barcelona, being the new Navarro for a decade. For Abrines as well is better to accept the offer from the Catalan club because he is born in Palma de Mallorca, which is very close to Barcelona.
