With Jabari Parker, Joventut become true title contender in BCL

Joventut Badalona will host the Final Four of this year’s Basketball Champions League, and they are one of the biggest favourites to win the BCL trophy. The Catalan team leads Group K with a 3-1 record after beating Chalon and Unicaja at home and Wurzburg in Germany (they did lose in France against Chalon, but they have the advantage in the direct matchup), so they are close to qualifying for the quarterfinals.

However, not everything went great recently for ‘La Penya’ as they had to deal with the injury of one of their key players, American forward Sam Dekker. Because the player needed surgery, the club and the player agreed to end the contract, so Joventut had to look for options to replace him. It seems that the solution they found is Jabari Parker, who was under contract with Partizan, but the Serbian team will loan him to Spain.

Parker had a difficult season in Belgrade so far as he struggled to play at the level the fans expected from him, and also Partizan has a disappointing season as they struggled to compete at the level everyone thought they would be this year.

After playing one year in college for Duke, Parker was selected as the 2nd overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft and was considered a huge prospect. He played 8 seasons in the NBA, but suffered serious injuries that impacted his performance, and he eventually ended up in Europe, signing with Barcelona in 2023. He had two very good seasons in the blaugrana jersey with an average of 12 points per game in 2 EuroLeague seasons. Now, it seems that Parker will return to Spain after half a season in Serbia, and it should be a big boost for Badalona.

This season, he played 15 EuroLeague games for Partizan, averaging 7.7 points per game. Also in the ABA League, the American has 9.1 points per game. In comparison, Sam Dekker had 4.6 points per game this season after averaging over 12 last season. In the BCL level, Parker can definitely be a difference maker, and he could be a key piece for Badalona in the quest to win their first European trophy since 2008.
