Benfica turned Gran Canaria down in Lisbon
In spite of winning the tournament held in the capital of Portugal, Herbalife Gran Canaria gave up the last game in front of the host team. Benfica won the encounter with 83-77 proving a very good level for the season to come. The hero of the game was Micah Downs, completely on-fire who scored 26 points for the hosts. He was followed by the captain Tomas Barroso with 18 points and Toure Murry (14). Surprisingly Joao Gomes, ex-Trento player for the last couple of years finished the game with 0 points.
On the other side, Gran Canaria looked like a very relaxed team, using a large rotation and offering many minutes to their bench players. Matt Costello (13 points), Luke Nelson, Omar Cook and Demonte Harper all with 10 points were the main contributors for the Canarian squad.
In 17 and 20 September, Benfica will meet Donar Groningen in a double match for the qualifiers in Basketball Champions League groups. It has to be a very balanced duel between two different styles of playing the game of basketball.
