Can Promitheas stop Virtus Bologna’s run?
Today the 4th round of Eurocup will start with a duel between two teams that are in good form: Promitheas Patras and Virtus Bologna. While Promitheas had a 5-2 record in all competitions, Virtus are on an amazing run, 8-0! The real question is: Are Promitheas good enough to stop Virtus’s run or who will bring the Italian team down to Earth? Let’s see if the Greek team are good enough to stop this amazing run.
Promitheas are second in Group A with two wins and one defeat in this season of Eurocup. Last round they managed to get an important win in Germany against Ulm 70-67 after a very good defensive game. In Greek league, they won against Kolossos Rhodes after a very tight match, 81-80. They made a comeback in the last quarter after Kolossos lead by 8 points in the third quarter. The main contributors for them were: Chris Babb with 22 points and 3 rebounds, Dimitrios Agravanis with 17 points and 5 rebounds and Langston Hall with 10 points. They used 10 players with more than 9 minutes each on the court, which means they were thinking on this game and give their top players some rest.
This start of the season is a dream comes true for Virtus’s fans because their team are unbeatable in all 8 Seria A and Eurocup games. As for now, the top teams they beat are Venezia, Andorra or Ulm. In the last match, they beat Varese at home 87-80. The top performers of the game were Milos Teodosic with 19 points and 5 assists, Stefan Markovic with 14 points and 4 assists and Kyle Weems with only 4 points but 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Their roster is long and powerful, so the schedule shouldn’t be a problem for this team.
Well, believe it or not, Promitheas had a good chance to stop Bologna’s victorious run. They play very good basketball and their main strength is the defense. They are the team with the fewer points allowed in the competition this season. It’s right that Virtus is the top offensive team, but their run must stop in a way or another. They can have a bad shooting day and added with a top defensive display from their opponents, the chances to have a win for the home team are pretty nice. I totally agree that Virtus has the first chance to win, no doubts about that, but I really think that they have to fight for every point in this game!
