Dinamo Sassari hosting Virtus Bologna: the derby of the week in Legabasket
The derby of Seria A’s round 14 will be the match between Dinamo Sassari and Virtus Bologna, two teams with high ambitions for this season and with the first and third-best record in the league. They seem to be the teams that will fight with Armani Milano until the end for the crown. Let’s see who are more prepared for this game.
Sassari will play at home, where they have a 9-2 record, losing only to Manresa in BCL and against Trieste in the beginning of the season. They came in this game after two victories against good opponents in Fortitudo Bologna and Turk Telecom. On Wednesday, they receive the visit of Turk Telecom, in BCL, in another big match for them. They had a 9-points lead at the halftime, but in the third quarter, Telecom took a 2-points lead before the last part of the game. In the final quarter, Sassari managed to overcome a 9-points deficit, 70-79 and win the game 92-89. Their top performers of the game were: Michelle Vitali (20 points and 4 assists), Curtis Jerrells (16 points) and Stefano Gentile (15 points and 4 rebounds).
In the last game, Virtus Bologna had to travel to France where they meet another force of Eurocup, Monaco. That game was very tough but in the end, they managed to get the win, despite losing the first quarter by 13 points, 24-11. Their defense in the second half was perfect, allowing Monaco to score only 11 shots from 37 attempts. Virtus had less offensive rebounds and more turnovers and personal fouls, but those stats come second behind assists and their decent shooting from the field. Both teams combined had 51 personal fouls in the game, which shows us how tough and physical was that game. The top performers were: Milos Teodosic (25 points and 3 rebounds), Kyle Weems (17 points and 7 rebounds) and Frank Gaines (12 points and 4 rebounds).
Both teams are in excellent form right now, so it’s very hard to predict a winner. They have good morale after big wins in the European competitions and deep rosters to overcome any problems regarding the schedule and their fatigue. I expect a tough match, but in the end, Sassari will take the win.
