Fribourg Olympic shocked Inter Bratislava advancing to BasketballCL Qualification Round 2
One of the most surprising turn around just happened last night in Switzerland. The host Fribourg Olympic had to remove a 15 points deficit from the first leg, which seemed very difficult at the beginning. Even more complicated after the first quarter when the visitor made even bigger the gap, winning it with 19-14 and accumulating a 20 points advantage overall. Hard to come back and erase the deficit in the next 3 quarters, but not impossible for the Swiss reigning champions.
Fribourg bounced back in an impressive way, making an unbelievable game. They won the second quarter with 24-6 and the third one with 22-11, having the qualification in their hands. In the last stanza, the host team smashed one again the Slovakians with 29-14, winning the game with almost 40 points margin (89-50). They were great on both sides of the court and forcing the opponents to bad percentages and turnovers. The Swiss team obtained the tickets for the next round with a huge advantage 156-132, after being down by 20 overall after the first quarter of the second leg.
Brandon Garret was the most efficient player for Fribourg with 17 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Timothy Derksen (16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists). The visitor team had only 31 index rate together which is unbelievable. Only the Americans Lee Edward Skinner (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Sterling Dupree Gibbs (13 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists) had a decent presence on the court for Bratislava.
In the next round of qualifiers to enter the Basketball Champions League group stage, Fribourg Olympic will face the Germans from Telekom Baskets Bonn, a much stronger team than Inter Bratislava. Here you have all the pairings of the second round:
