I trusted U-Banca Transilvania to win at Brindisi
One week ago on my private Telegram channel, I recommended U-Banca Transilvania as a winner of the Champions League game at Happy Casa Brindisi. First of all, the odd was huge on the Romanian side, 3.55 and it didn’t reflect the reality on the court.
U-Banca Transilvania has an amazing roster with experienced players like Stipanovic, Bircevic, Richard, Hogue and so on. Those guys played in strong European leagues before and they are used to such tough games.
In the opening round, the Romanian squad smashed Darussafaka, proving once again that their participation in the Basketball Champions League is not something random. At the same time, I saw Brindisi humiliated at home by Hapoel Holon by 30 points, in the first round. Poor offense, weak defense, only 61 points scored etc. Clearly that Brindisi cannot be a clear favorite against any team with a good level.
The absence of Gaspardo and Chappell have also contributed to the bad situation of the Italian side. The roster is shorter and the rotation as well. Myles Carter had also some muscular problems the last few days, so actually, Brindisi could rely only on 7 players, the same rotation that U-Banca Transilvania has. The battle was balanced but the odds were not. So I pick up, the Romanian side even if Brindisi had an advantage, the home court. Another small detail was that U-Banca Transilvania didn’t play in the domestic league last week, so they were potentially more rested.
