Maccabi is building a superteam
While all eyes are on the transfers made by big teams of the moment like F.C. Barcelona, CSKA or Fenerbahce, Maccabi Tel Aviv will be definitely the biggest surprise of the next Euroleague season. During summer, the Israeli powerhouse had added slowly, step by step, a couple of players and almost nobody noticed them because the focus of the specialists was on other club’s signings. But now it appears very clear for all of us that Maccabi will have a huge presence on the European stage this year. They keep signing and signing players and who knows when the club will stop the additions.
With the signing of Tyler Dorsey (if it will be dealt), Maccabi Tel Aviv will have now one of the top 4 largest and quality rotations in Euroleague, passing in my opinion Real Madrid, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Baskonia and Olimpia Milano). The Israeli club has already 14 strong fellows under contract, including the two young local products (Deni Avdija and Yovel Zoosman). This team has now everything they could dream (fantastic bench, size, speed, athleticism, good shooting percentage) in order to reach without problems the playoffs and why not to hope for the Final 4.
The biggest advantage of Maccabi can be the depth of the bench, who will allow them to play an excellent “run and gun”, changing constantly the players and at the same time to create a scary full-court defense to make the opponents tired after a couple of minutes. Average teams won’t resist to their pressing and many games will be an easy win because of the larger rotation. If chemistry will work and the players will be able to apply the coach tactics, Maccabi will be a very different squad than last seasons. They will be back in the European elite where they belong.
