Peristeri started the BCL season on a high note
As we expected, Vassilis Spanoulis has made an interesting project in Greece. During the summer the new Peristeri took shape and it is at the moment one of the most powerful squads in the Basketball Champions League. A couple of days ago I recommended in my private Telegram channel to take Peristeri as a winner, including with a small handicap over Bnei Herzliya.
The Greeks didn’t disappoint at all, controlling the encounter from the first minutes and never looking back. Spanoulis used a large rotation of ten men, sharing the minutes between all the players because the game was an easy win from the beginning. Even if the Israeli team dominated the rebounds with a big margin with 46 to only 34 made by Peristeri, the turnovers kill them. Bnei Herzliya had 20 lost possessions, while the Greeks had just 9 tunovers, showing great discipline and collective effort.
Peristeri is looking very good, having an excellent move of the ball, great defense, and smart offensive plays and they could reach the superior phases of the competition. The only big obstacle is they are in the toughest group of the Basketball Champions League, fighting for the qualifying 2 spots with amazing rivals. It is about the reigning champions Lenovo Tenerife and the Lithuanian champions, Rytas Vilnius, two teams that will be very tough to break. It is such a pity that one of those 3 great teams won’t qualify for the next stage.
