Pinar made a disappointing game in Manresa
Yesterday game between Baxi Manresa and Pinar Karsiyaka had to be a derby. The Catalan team had a great season so far in the Basketball Champions League while the Turkish side is a title contender. Last year Pinar lost the final of the European competition in front of San Pablo Burgos and this year they declared they aim for the title. Instead of this Pinar Karsiyaka is far from playing decent. They won with difficulty if they won!
After the good start of Pinar with 8-0, Baxi Manresa came back into the game and slowly took the lead and then never lost the rhythm. The Spaniards dominated Pinar in the second half winning with an amazing 88-69.
The Turkish team had almost no response in front of the clever basketball practised by Baxi Manresa. Semih Erden made 4 stupid fouls (including a technical one) in only 8 minutes of play. Former Maccabi Tel Aviv center Alex Tyus was blocked by Manresa big guys and reduced to only 4 points. The same lack of efficiency affected the guards of Pinar Karsiyaka: Tony Taylor, Bonzie Colson and James Blackmon were unresponsive in front of Manresa’s good defense. The only players that had something to say for the Turkish side were Amath M’Baye and Michael Roll.
Baxi Manresa played very smart and organized on both sides of the court led by Ismael Bako and Joe Thomasson. As a result of this encounter, the Spaniards are already qualified for the next chapter of the Basketball Champions League.
