Sidigas Avellino close to eliminate Olimpia Milano
When Sidigas Avellino won the first game of the playoff series in Milan, I bet many Italiens were shocked. But it doesn’t have to be such a surprise if Sidigas will eliminate the only Euroleague team of Italy. Let’s not forget that Mike James is injured and Nemanja Nedovic is coming after one, so he cannot play at his best level.
Milano players are also disappointed after a mediocre season when they missed the Euroleague playoffs and the Italian Cup. Some of them are thinking now of the next season and of their new teams. On the other side, Sidigas Avellino recuperated their complete roster which was plagued with injuries the whole season and now they have the chance to show their real potential as a team. They slightly caught the last place for the playoff in Legabasket but that doesn’t mean they are a weak team. On the contrary, I think the situation and the opponent gave them the missing spark and motivation to fight.
Avellino is just one game away to complete the blow eliminating Olimpia Milano. If they will do so, reaching the semifinals, I doubt they can win the title in Italy. But they will create space for Vanoli Cremona, the winner of the Italian Cup and one of the most dangerous squad in Legabasket.
