So praised Promitheas made a horrible game against BC Larissa
Yesterday, the Eurocup team of Greece made one of the worst basketball game ever against the average team of Larissa (62-76). This is more surprising because is coming exactly after Promitheas has strengthened their roster, adding experienced Greek internationals, Loukas Mavrokefalides and Vangelis Mantzaris. Now they have an impressive bench and 11 players that can be introduced as starters. And I think that was the problem. The coach played a bit testing new formulas for the next games sacrificing the result of the encounter with Larissa.
But one thing is sure, chemistry didn’t work at all in this game for Promitheas Patras. They had more possessions, more field goals attempted and more free-throws than the visitors, missing instead everything. For a Eurocup team, having the roster complete and losing like this at home against a weak opponent it is a big shame. Promitheas had no excuses, they had enough rest, no long trips to make them tired, no Eurocup games. How to score at home 62 points against a bad team like Larissa, that is now, after this victory, on the 11th spot of the rankings in the Greek league? You cannot defeat some average American players? Actually, BC Larissa has no superstar in the team and the roster is built with a small budget, nothing impressive. So nobody would ask them the miracle to smash away the rising team of Greece who is aiming for the Euroleague in the near future.
Promitheas Patras has to build chemistry if they want to succeed. The expensive and large roster is not enough. In Eurocup, the Top16 phase they will start in an average group with Venezia, Brescia and Oldenburg, having a good chance to reach out for the playoffs. With a bit of luck, they can be in the semifinals of the European competition or including the finals, which will guarantee them a spot in the next Euroleague. But first, the coach Giatras Makis has to create strong relationships between the players in order to improve the disastrous percentage and efficiency.
