Jan Vesely
Jan Vesely, a player born in the Czech Republic, was drafted in 2011 with the sixth overall pick by the Washington Wizards. Jan came into the draft after playing three years for Partizan Belgrad and reaching the EuroLeague Final Four with them. He was envisioned to be a solid player coming into the league, but in his four seasons spent with the Wizards, he kind of disappointed, as he didn’t average more than 5 PPG and 5 RPG. In 2014, Vesely was traded to Denver Nuggets, and by the end of the season he appeared in 21 games and averaged 4,4 PPG, 3,7 RPG and 1,3 steals-per-game. In spite of that, after struggling to find another NBA team to sign him in that same year’s summer, he signed a contract with the Turkish powerhouse, Fenerbahce. It proved to be a good move, because he helped them to reach the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time in the franchise history. Even though they finished on the 4th place, it was considered an achieve overall. In that EuroLeague season, he averaged 11,2 PPG, 5,4 RPG on 63,3% shooting. Right in the next year, he got a little bit unlucky, as he injured his Achilles tendon, which kept him out several games in the playoffs, but Vesely managed to come back in the Final Four. He was selected for the All-EuroLeague First Team in the 2015-16 season. Fenerbahce reached the Final Four once again, this time playing the Finals against Real Madrid, in 2018. Unfortunately for Jan and his team they lost the game, finishing second in Europe. He had 12 PPG and 5,1 RPG in 34 games played in the EuroLeague that season. Jan Vesely signed a new contract with Fenerbahce at the start of 2019, committing to stay with them for another three seasons.
