Russell Westbrook

  Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook was drafted in 2008 by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 4th overall pick. Although he played on the shooting guard position in college, he started as a point guard in the NBA, forming a very good duo with his good friend, Kevin Durant. In his rookie season he averaged 15,3 PPG, 4,9 RPG, 5,3 APG and 1,3 steals-per-game, and even if he didn’t win the Rookie of the Year Award, he was selected for the All-Rookie team. In his second year the in-game relationship between him and Durant began to take shape, as they got into the playoffs for the first time in four years. Even though he was eliminated by the Lakers in six games, improvements was clearly to be seen and the Thunder organization was about to have a bright future with Westbrook as a starting point guard. Russell played a NBA Finals in 2011-12, this marking the highest peak of his career from the team’s achievement point-of-view. After some seasons in which he made the playoffs but fell short every time, whether it was in the second round or the conference finals, he managed to win the MVP award in the 2016-17 season, after making history by averaging a triple-double for an entire season, with 31,6 PPG, 10,7 RPG and 10,4 APG. Only Oscar Robertson managed to do that in 1962. Westbrook also have 2 Scoring Titles in his trophy room, one of them achieved in that same season when he won the MVP. The crazy thing is that he finished his third regular season averaging a triple-double, this showing his all-around game, the athleticism and the will to attack no matter what.
