The bet of the weekend: Unicaja to smash Real Betis

The most straightforward bet of the weekend came from the Spanish league, ACB, where Unicaja Malaga hosted Real Betis Sevilla. This encounter is called symbolically “The Andalusian derby” and only in a symbolic way could you call this game a derby because it was not balanced at all. That’s why I recommended on my Telegram channel with basketball betting tips to take a slight handicap on Malaga, at least -5 points.

My reasons for that choice were:

  • Unicaja Malaga made a great effort this year to build an amazing roster and they need results. When I think about results I mean the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and the Spanish league and of course at least a presence in the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League. I know that Liga ACB is by far the most powerful championship in Europe, with many competitors, but this year, Malaga is between the best teams of it.
  • last week Real Betis lost at home in front of Girona, a team that was coming from the second league, with a small budget and an average roster, except Marc Gasol. If Betis couldn’t win that encounter it was clear they will be destroyed in Malaga this round.
  • On the other side, Unicaja Malaga suffered a loss last week at Joventut Badalona after leading in the 4 quarter by 5 points and then collapsed in an embarrassing way. Another loss, at home against a weak squad like Betis couldn’t be accepted.

Unicaja Malaga irrupted and win the game with one of the biggest margins ever: 106-60, proving they are very strong at home.
