The interesting opener of Liga ACB: Girona hosting Real Madrid

Wednesday, Basquet Girona will open the Liga ACB season with a challenging game at home against the reigning champions of Spain. Real Madrid is coming after winning the Spanish Supercup a couple of days ago against their archrivals from FC Barcelona.

For this opener, we have two very different teams. Real Madrid is one of the most influential clubs in Europe, while Girona is at their comeback in Liga ACB after many years in the second league. The difference is huge in budget, salaries and goals for this season. But Girona is a team with a big heart. Marc Gasol’s project is one of the most impressive and bringing in Aito Garcia Reneses was a big step for the club.

Except for 2-3 veterans, the players are very young. The age average is only 26 years old. This is what Garcia Reneses likes the most: to give minutes to young talents in order to grow. I am sure that coming to Girona is the best thing that a young basketball player can do because there you will play for sure enough minutes, you will learn a lot and you will improve yourself.

Theoretically, Real Madrid is without a doubt a much better team, but I am sure that Basquet Girona will fight till the end trying to turn the tables. It will be interesting to watch Marc Gasol and the company trying to overcome the giant from Madrid. Both teams have good chemistry because many players were kept from last season’s roster.
