The Spanish newcomers of the next Basketball Champions League
After a wonderful 2018-2019 Champions League season, when Virtus Bologna was crowned champions, the next chapter will be even more interesting. Their official website presents the strongest lineup in competition’s history, with 23 out of 24 teams from the Regular Season playing in their national playoffs and 18 finishing in the top 5. Among the powerful squads qualified in the group phase of the next season we can find also 2 Spanish newcomers, which I will present to you below:
Baxi Manresa: The Catalan club saw their last European participation was in 1998-1999 Euroleague season. This year they stopped that drought thanks to an 8th place achieved at the regular ACB season. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by now ACB champions Real Madrid. The performance is very huge, considering that they promoted back to the first tier in 2018. Now they are searching for some European glory and the bringing in of the reputed coach Pedro Martinez shows that the club will try to have long and serious participation in the Basketball Champions League.
Tecnyconta Zaragoza: The second newcomer from Spain is another surprising team that fully deserved this Champions League place. They finished the regular season on the 6th place and in the first round of playoffs they eliminated the Euroleague powerhouse, Baskonia by 2-0. That was a huge result and a big upset for all Baskonia`s fans. In the ACB semifinals, Barcelona crushed them 3-0, but their last season was more than impressive.
I am sure that any of these 2 teams can easily reach the BasketballCL playoff and maybe as well the Final 4 of the competition.
