U-Banca Transilvania ended an amazing season in Champions League
After being the revelation of the season in Basketball Champions League, U-BT Cluj-Napoca faced the do-or-die against Ludwigsburg. Tough game if we take into consideration that the German squad won the group stage, smashing Iberostar Tenerife both times. The Romanian team played a bad first half where the pressure on defense made by Ludwigsburg forced the hosts to commit too many turnovers, while the shooting percentage was extremely poor. U-BT came back in the last quarter and could tie the game if the referees didn´t make some mistakes. In a such a derby, 2-3 bad decisions will change the final result. I don´t mean that U-BT was better than the visitors, but in key-moments the refs didn´t let them tie the game. If you lose a game by only 4 points and you were called a lot of technical fouls AFTER some huge mistake of refereeing, it was not a fair basketball.
But if we forget this chapter, we can say that U-BT squad had an amazing season, being the first Romanian team ever to reach the Quarterfinals of the Basketball Champions League. Their basketball arena with 10 000 tickets sold out in the first 30 minutes it is the best proof that this club is on the best way to achieve the European glory in the near future.
But getting back at the beggining of the season, who thought that this team will qualify for the Basketball Champions League? And then to win their group. And then the second group.
Maybe with more local quality players in the roster, in the years to come, U-BT having a deeper rotation can reach the Final 4 of the European competition.
