Which will be the best Spanish team in Basketball Champions League?
Yesterday in an article, I analyzed who will be the best Turkish team in Basketball Champions League and now it’s time for Spain. If San Pablo Burgos will pass to the group stage, winning against the team that will come from the clash Kapfenberg Bulls/BC Kyiv, then we will have a huge Spanish presence in the BasketballCL.
Spain could have 4 teams to compete and it will tie Turkey’s participation who has already 4 clubs in the continental competition. Even if the level of the Spanish squads is very balanced let’s see which is their ranking for BasketballCL next season:
4. San Pablo Burgos – they start with the last chances because of 2 reasons. At the moment they have to win their qualifiers to enter the BasketballCL groups, but they are favorites in front of the small teams like Kapfenberg Bulls (AUS) and BC Kyiv (Ukraine). The 2nd reason is after qualifying, Burgos has the worst roster from the Spanish teams involved in Basketball Champions League. The depth of the bench is not impressive.
3. Iberostar Tenerife – I feel this season they won’t reach the Final 4. The Canarian club made a lot of changes this summer, adding a lot of new faces. Maybe in the domestic league, they will enter the playoffs, but in BasketballCL, Tenerife is not a title contender.
2. Tecnyconta Zaragoza – They are back in the European elite and the club has made a huge season last year eliminating the Euroleague powerhouse, Baskonia from the Spanish playoffs. I think they will reach the higher levels of BasketballCL this season, including maybe the Final4 presence.
1. Baxi Manresa – The Catalan club, led by the reputed coach Pedro Martinez will try to fight for the European glory. The quality of the roster is equal to Zaragoza’s or Tenerife’s one, that’s why is very hard to predict, but I think that Manresa will have a long campaign in BasketballCL, reaching the playoffs and why not the Final 4.
