5 amazing things about Rimas Kurtinaitis
The new head coach of Khimki Moscow, Rimas Kurtinaitis is a well-known character in European basketball history. For all of you too young to know him better I will present here 5 amazing things about his legendary life:
- As a player, Rimas Kurtinaitis won the Eurobasket (1985), 5 times the USSR title (1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987), the Spanish League with Real Madrid (1994), the Lithuanian League with Zalgiris Kaunas (1996) and many other trophies.
- He was the only non-NBA player to ever be invited to take part in the 3-point contest in the NBA All-Star, in 1989
- In 1997, Rimas Kurtinaitis was the Lithuanian Ministry of Sport
- He is the only coach to win Eurocup 3 times: in 2009 with Lietuvos Rytas and in 2012 and in 2015 with Khimki Moscow
- In 2012 he was already named the Eurocup coach all-time
