Anadolu Efes beat Fenerbahce in the Presidential Cup
Thursday, Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce, the best teams from Turkey, met in the Presidential Cup, the Supercup of Turkish basketball. Zeljko Obradovic’s team put up a good fight, even though it had important absences (Jan Vesely, Joffrey Lauvergne, Luigi Datome), but in the end, Anadolu Efes won by five points: 79-74.
The match that was held in Gaziantep Karatas Sahinbey Sports Hall started very well for the Turkish Superleague champions. Anadolu Efes lead 7-4, 13-6, and then 15-8. However, Fenerbahce bounced back and managed to make a 12-4 run, leading at the end of the first quarter.
The second sequence was more balanced and both teams showed a better defense. The score remained very close as Anadolu Efes regained the lead: 39-37.
The second half was controlled by Ergin Ataman’s players which had six, eight or even eleven-point advantages. However, Fenerbahce kept fighting and cut the deficit to four points with three minutes left in the game. This wasn’t enough as Anadolu Efes won with the final score of 79-74, gaining the Presidential Cup.
Best scorers from the winning side were Krunoslav Simon (22 points), Vasilije Micic (16 points), Bryant Dunston (15 points), and Alec Peters (12 points). From Fenerbahce, we note the performances of Derrick Williams (16 points), Nikola Kalinic (13 points), and Melih Mahmutoglu (11 points).
