Basketball Champions League will be much stronger next season
Every year since the beginning, this competition organized by FIBA Europe is becoming better, involving more top quality clubs. The next season seems to be impressive and by far the best of all the previous editions. And there is more time left until we will know all the participant teams.
The board of the competition invited a lot of new teams to join BasketballCL, including Partizan, Buducnost and Cedevita. About the first one, I am very sceptical, but regarding other top teams from ABA League, I am not. Simply because for them and for many other clubs in Europe is much better to be involved in BasketballCL than in Eurocup. And to dream of the Euroleague is too much for 99% of the clubs.
We all know that Euroleague is the league of the RICH. Any other criteria should not be discussed, only the MONEY, which provides the guarantee that the clubs can participate for a long term in the Euroleague. Some other clubs can participate sporadically, maybe for a season or two.
Eurocup is organized as well by the Euroleague, but many teams are disappointed by that system, which is not providing big advantages for the clubs involved. If you are not interested or simply don’t have enough money to be in the final of the Eurocup, reaching this way a Euroleague spot for the next season, the participation is useless. That’s why important clubs, like Darussafaka, Rytas Vilnius, Bilbao are migrating from Eurocup to BasketballCL. It’s possible that Galatasaray will join them too. And Fortitudo Bologna as well. Who knows which many other clubs will choose BasketballCL this summer? During the last years big European clubs like AEK Athens, Brose Bamberg, Iberostar Tenerife, Casademont Zaragoza, Murcia, Besiktas, Hapoel Jerusalem, Turk Telekom, Dinamo Sassari and so on preferred the FIBA competition instead of Eurocup.
There is no doubt that this season BasketballCL will be amazing, having an important balance between the teams involved. There will be at least 10 titles contenders, definitely the best and the most attractive version of this competition since the beginning of it.
