CSM Oradea with an important win over Bamberg
One of the most disputed derbies of the FIBA Europe Cup took place yesterday in Oradea. The hosts received Brose Bamberg, the title contender of the competition. Both teams needed desperately the win and the basketball show was guaranteed.
CSM Oradea had a shorter rotation than usual because they lost Justin Carter due to an injury. The visitors came with a full roster but they played very weakly. Brose Bamberg finished the encounter with 19 turnovers and less than 20% from the arc. Even if the Germans had much more field goals attempted, they scored fewer points because their percentages were low.
The Romanian team played with more motivation and strength. Their defense was much better probably because this game was a huge opportunity for them to stay alive in the group. After this encounter, the group complicated a lot for Brose Bamberg because now they lost 2 times to CSM Oradea. In the last 2 games of the group, both teams have the same opponents Keravnos at home (an easy game in theory for each team) and Anwil away (a difficult opponent). In the case of a tie between Bamberg and Oradea at the end of the group phase, the Romanian team will advance to the next stage of the European competition.
Next week’s game is very important for CSM Oradea. If they could beat Anwil in Poland, they have 99% chances to reach out on the group stage. Of course, they will need to beat Keravnos too in the last game.
