Happy Casa Brindisi looking with hope at the new BasketballCL season
Brindisi is coming back in the European competitions after 3 years break. Last time they have participated in Eurocup where the Italian club finished last in the stage group. But back in 2015, they have reached the quarterfinals of the EuroChallenge.
Last season was not a bad one for Brindisi since they have played the Italian Cup finals, lost against Cremona and in Legabasket they finished on the 5th spot. But this year, Happy Casa Brindisi is aiming to have a bit of continental glory and they are preparing with intensity for the next season. They have kept only two foreigners of the last season: Adrian Banks and John Brown III and the Italian Alessandro Zanelli.
The Italian club parted ways with Tony Gaffney, Erick Rush, Jeremy Chappell, Wes Clark, Jakub Wojciekowski and Riccardo Moraschini. They were good players, but it seems that the new signings are even more promising.
Tyler Stone has a lot of experience in different countries in Europe and it’s a good choice at the forward position. Another American added by Brindisi is BasketballCL champion with Virtus Bologna, Kelvin Martin, who played incredibly with Cremona 2 years ago. Last year due to an injury, Martin couldn’t touch his best level but if he recovered this summer, he can do great things on the court. And maybe the best acquisition till now is Darius Thompson, the Fiba Europe Cup top scorer last season with 22.4 points per game and the most efficient player of the entire competition with 22.8 index rate.
Very important for Brindisi are as well the signings of the local players with experience in Legabasket like Raphael Gaspardo, Antonio Ianuzzi, Luca Campogrande and Riccardo Cattapan who will give an important depth to the bench.
Brindisi looks great but I think they need to add one more foreigner to compete without problems at the highest level in BasketballCL and Legabasket.
