This could be the secret of successful teams all over the world. To have a lot of good players but none of them between the top scorers of the entire competition. Let’s see the Canarian example. One of the main title contenders this season and the winner of the 2016-2017 edition has only 2 players in Top 100 scorers of the BCL Not even one of their players is present in the top 50! Not even in the first 60 scorers list!
Their first scorer occupies the 67th spot in the entire competition. Tim Abromaitis is having 11.3 points per game with 48.8% inside the arc, 46.8% from the 3 points line and a bit over 80% from the free-throws in almost 24 minutes spent on the court.
The second one is Colton Iverson on 76th place in BCL, with 11.1 points per game. The American dominates in the paint with 61.7%, meanwhile, he didn’t take any shots from the arc. At free-throws he has a decent 76.9% in almost 19 minutes per game.
It’s very clear that Iberostar Tenerife has a homogeneous team, without individualities and selfish shots, where everybody is contributing in an equal way for the squad. They don’t need high scorers because each of them is a potential one. That’s why they smashed Hapoel Jerusalem, a team with too many brilliant players but who failed dramatically in the quarterfinals!
