Is Giannis Antetokounmpo Batman or Robin?
A few days ago, ex-NBA player Kendrick Perkins stated on national TV that Khris Middleton is ‘The Batman’ of the Milwaukee Bucks, while Giannis Antetokounmpo is ‘The Robin’. With this, he wanted to suggest that Middleton is better than Antetokounmpo, who won the MVP twice in the last three seasons.
So is Giannis Antetokounmpo Batman or Robin?
In this playoff, Antetokounmpo has averaged 29.2 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 38.4 minutes. In the meantime, Middleton has 23.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.2 steals. I think we can all see who has the better stats.
I agree that sometimes Middleton plays at an incredible level and has some crazy runs where nobody can stop him. Even Giannis said: “I trust Khris to death. If Khris asks for the ball, better give him the ball.” But, overall, Antetokounmpo is the more constant player and the one who gets the most attention from the opponents.
Look at what happened last night. In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Bucks were going back and forth with the Hawks until something happened. At the score of 52-62, Antetokounmpo got injured and then the game became easy for Atlanta. Without Trae Young, they won by a margin of 22 points (110-88) and tied the series.
At the moment of the injury, Antetokounmpo had 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one block in 24 minutes. Meanwhile, Middleton finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 36 minutes. Without Giannis, Middleton got all the attention from the defense and he was annihilated.
Therefore, I would suggest that Kendrick Perkins should stop trying to get attention, and should really analyze the situation. Giannis Antetokounmpo is Batman, Khris Middleton is Robin.
