Italy showed chemistry and determination eliminating Serbia
Yesterday, big favourite Serbia was simply destroyed in Belgrade, in front of thousands of fans. Italy without Marco Belinelli, Gigi Datome, Danilo Gallinari and Daniel Hackett proved character and gave no chance to the hosts. The new generation of the Italian national team played amazingly. Led by Nicolo Mannion, the guard of Golden State Warriors and by Achile Polonara who was the MVP of the game with a 32 index rate, Italy imposed the rhythm of the battle. Great contributions had also Simone Fontecchio and Stefano Tonut.
On the other side, we saw a Serbian team that was not able to organize their offense as they wanted, while their defense sucked a lot. Too many forced shots, many of them from the arc without success. Milos Teodosic (0/6 from the 3 point line) and Nemanja Bjelica (1/6 from the arc) were simply pathetic.
Serbia couldn’t make their game in front of this fresh and full of energy young team of Italy. They played chaotic, being dominated at any chapter by the visitors. The Italian squad was simply unstoppable, scoring buckets at every possession. In the last stanza, Serbia played much better but the game was already over since Italy had a huge margin and they resisted the Serbian attack. With such a great game, Italy punched a well-deserved ticket for the Final Tournament of the Olympics.
