Money and standings in the Euroleague
At the beginning of the season, the French magazine L’Equipe was presenting the budget for each Euroleague’s team. I think it was a great idea in order to have a more transparent image about who is investing the most money in the major European competition.
Of course, there is a big discussion about the real budgets because it seems that some clubs are not including there all their bills, but only the salaries. But even so, we can have a clue about which teams are spending a lot of cash on very poor results and which ones are doing great things being short of money.
According to our comparison between budgets and standing at the moment in the Euroleague, there are 3 types of clubs:
a) the ones who are on a good spot regarding the goals for the season (F.C. Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, Real Madrid, Asvel Lyon)
b) the ones that have a much better position in the standings than the money invested (Anadolu Efes, Maccabi Tel Aviv, PAO, Valencia, Olympiacos, Zalgiris, Crvena Zvezda, Alba Berlin)
c) the disappointing teams, which in spite of their big budgets are occupying lower spots in the standings (Khimki, Fenerbahce, Armani Milan, Baskonia, Zenit, Bayern)
