Pustovyi and Smits. On Sunday, Barcelona Lassa beat the 17th seed, Gipuzkoa in the Round 33 of Spanish League with 88-71. They have won all four quarters, decreasing Gipuzkoa’s chances to avoid relegation in the second tier of Spanish Basketball.
In the end, Barcelona finished with 53.6% field goals attempts made and 90% (18 out of 20) at the free-throw line. They also won the rebounds battle with 35-28 and had 22 assists. The main contributors were Thomas Heurtel with 22 points, 5 assists and Adam Hanga, which recorded a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds.
But the most interesting fact of the game was the solid contributions of Artem Pustovyi and Rolands Smits, two players that had only a few chances along this year to perform and develop their game. Both centers played more minutes in this match than usually do, especially due to the Ante Tomic injury and Svetislav Pesic’s decision of limiting Seraphin at only 7 minutes. Rolands Smits finished the game with 12 points (3 of 3 from the three-point line) and 3 rebounds, while Artem finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Their contribution was very big, proving that Barcelona can now easily to rely more on them, due to the Tomic’s injury. The playoffs games are very close and somebody needs to fill the missing player in the paint, a very important part of Barcelona’s playing style during the entire decade.
