The free fall of Turk Telekom

The free fall of Turk Telekom

After a very promising start, the reborn Turk Telekom back in the 1st League was seen by many as a revelation of the Turkish League. But in the last 7 rounds, they managed to beat just the poor squad from Sakarya, who doesn’t have any claims in front of big teams. Surprisingly Turk Telekom became as well in the last 2 months “a type of Sakarya” team for the real competitors in BSL.

Beneficiating of a top roster formed by excellent foreigners and experienced Turkish players, the team from Ankara is in the process of a free fall. They were smashed no just by the Euroleague powerhouses (Fenerbahce, Darussafaka, Anadolu Efes), but also by all the decent teams they have met (Banvit, Besiktas, Gaziantep).

The most curious fact of the blows suffered by Turk Telekom is that all these opponents (except Gaziantep) were engaged in the same time in European competitions (Euroleague and Basketball Champions League), having 2-3 difficult games every week. Instead of this, Turk Telekom had to focus just on Turkish league games, one time a week. But it seems like they have lost the motivation and energy after being swept from the Eurocup. In Turkish league, they have fallen from the 2nd spot to 7th, tied with 8th place occupied by Bahcesehir. If Turk Telekom will follow this path, next month will be out of the playoff.
