The limits of Scottie Wilbekin
I was Scottie Wilbekin’s fan since he played for the first time in Europe. I think he is an excellent player and an impressive sharpshooter. But yesterday game against his former team, Darussafaka revealed plenty of his limits. He better no to be used on the point guard position, because is a misuse of such a valuable talent. Because Scottie is not Mike James or Brad Wannamaker. He don’t jump so much and the best of his abilities is not to crossover the good defenders.
If you put him on the point guard, who comes with the ball from a court to another, you just make him tired and then the percentage will be ridiculous like yersterday: 1 from 9 on 2 points and 3 from 8 on 3 points (all 3 shots scored in the last quarter, so till then he had 0 from 5).
We all understand that the absence of Jeremy Pargo forced the coach to use Wilbekin on this position, when he is actually a shooting guard, not a point guard. That’s why he had some ugly turnovers and he received some blocks, looking like a hopeless child against Dacka strong defense during the first 3 quarters.
He has to be helped by the team with many screens to make open shots, because his hand is fantastic, but if you put him to drive alone against tough defenders like Toney Douglas or Michael Eric, he can do nothing. And you saw it yesterday: 0 index rate in 22 minutes!
