The NBA draft in the modern era
As we already know, last night was the NBA Draft, with a foreseen outcome. Zion Williamson was the first pick for New Orleans Pelicans. Many specialists said about this draft that is one of the most expected, taking into consideration that Zion is considered the next LeBron James.
With this amazing night, we should recall some other draft nights of the modern era, in which the first pick rose to the expectations.
We should look into 2016 NBA Draft night, where with the first pick, Ben Simmons proved to be a superstar calibre player. In 2012, was Anthony Davis time, who has already won an Olympic medal and is one of the best players nowadays. Kyrie Irving was the first pick for Cleveland Cavaliers. One of the most skilled, and clutch players to have played the game. 2010 Washington Wizards chose John Wall, the leader of his team.
In the 2008 draft, the first pick was Derrick Rose, a great player, but very unfortunate and accident-prone. He could have been one of the best PG’s in the modern era, but now, we can just wonder what would have happened if he had stayed healthy.
Last, but not least, the 2003 draft, one of the most expected events, brought LeBron James into the NBA arena. After 16 seasons in the game, he has three rings and is considered one of the best, if not the best player to have ever played the game.
This is my personal opinion about players that managed the pressure and became superstars for their teams. What other players should be considered to have risen to the expectations?
