The rebirth of Janis Timma

The rebirth of Janis Timma

Janis Timma is viewed as one of the best Latvian players. If we look at his personal stats at 2017 EuroBasket we will see that he was the second best player in Latvian team, after NBA star Kristaps Porzingis, a team that finished 5th in that tournament ahead of Italy, Greece, Germany and Lithuania. They were stopped in Quarter-Finals by the next EuroBasket Champions Slovenia, in a tight match, 103-97. Timma`s personal stats were: 14.3 points with 53.1% field goal attempts made, 5.4 rebounds and 4 assists.

In 2018-2019  he started the Euroleague season with Olympiacos, where he averages very low numbers because he didn’t see so many minutes on the court. He played in 23 games and started only 9, with an average of 11 minutes per game. He had 3.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists.

But in March, Olympiacos announced the loan of Janis Timma to Khimki Moscow for the rest of the season. From that point on it just got better for the Latvian Forward. He played 11 games for the Russian team and he had much better figures: 24.1 minutes per game (second after Alexey Shved), 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He helped Khimki finish third in the VTB League and now they are in the semifinals against Unics, and after two games at Unics, the score is tied 1-1.

Janis Timma is a remarkable player and at 27 years-old he`s on the peak of his career and still can be a huge factor for any Euroleague team. He`s an outstanding shooter, from all angles, having 50.3% at the 3-point line for Khimki this season. We will see what the future holds for him. Nevertheless, he`s a valuable asset for any team. Maybe he will continue with Khimki or move to another Euroleague power. Good luck to him!
