Weekly top 5 of shame (31 December – 6 January)
5. PANATHINAIKOS
They didn’t have any chance in front of their eternal rivals Olympiacos. The final result doesn’t show so much the dimension of the disaster, because PAO cut the deficit in the 4th quarter and they have lost with just 15 points margin. Nikola Milutinov dominated a helpless PAO in the paint.
4. ZIELONA GORA
The Polish team scored an embarrassing 41 points away, at Lokomotiv Kuban, in VTB League. Their index rate was one of the lowest ever: 23 for the entire team, the same number that a good player alone can make in one game. And imagine that the new player of Zielona, Eric Griffin was the scorer of the Polish squad with 11 points. What would have been without him?
3. UNICAJA MALAGA
They lost both games of the week. First, in Eurocup TOP 16 they got beaten by Valencia, which came as no big surprise. But after, at home, Malaga was humiliated by Iberostar Tenerife with 78-61. And even worse in this game Unicaja had 21 free-throws and the visitors just 4! Amazing Spanish league.
2. KOLOSSOS RHODES
In Greek league, the host team Kolossos was not able to score more than 60 points against the visitors from PAOK. Not a big deal you would say. But PAOK came without their best centers Yanick Moreira, recently gone to Virtus Bologna and Darrius Garrett, who was ill. In these circumstances, the team from Rhodes became the favourite to win the battle. Instead of winning they played pathetic.
1.GRAN CANARIA
Despite the new players added to the team, the Spanish team have lost with almost 30 points at home against Khimki. The Russian team came without their best players, Alexey Shved and Anthony Gill and even if no many people credit them with the chance to win, they destroyed Gran Canaria (99-70).
