Best team of the week
Starting from now, every week we will give the award for the best performance of the week in European basketball. This time it’s about the Russian team, Nizhny Novgorod. They made an impressive job, winning on the road two important games with a significant margin against all odds.
First, they smashed Avellino in Basketball Champions League with 92-71 and even more remarkable they beat Euroleague powerhouse Khimki in Moscow with 93-80, this time in VTB League.
The most important aspect is that coach Zoran Lukic decided to start both games only with Russian players, who had excellent stats. In the last game won at Khimki, only 3 foreigners came on the court for Nizhny, which made the victory even more spectacular.
Those 2 victories prove that you don’t need to make your roster full with useless Americans in order to win the games. Grow local talents and give them much more minutes, this is the good recipe.
