CSKA – Real Madrid, the battle of the most titled teams in the history of Euroleague
Two of the biggest clubs in European basketball will clash on 17th May in Euroleague Final Four for a chance to bring another trophy to their stats. Real and CSKA are the top-2 teams in terms of titles won: 10 for the Spanish giants and 7 for the Russian powerhouse. Let`s take a closer look at both teams ahead of this great match:
Real Madrid – The Spanish team holds the record for the most wins in Euroleague history, 10. Also, in 8 occasions they were the Runner-up. Their last successes were in the 2014-2015 season when they smashed 78-59 Olympiacos in front of their fans in Barclaycard Center in Madrid and in the last season, 2017-2018, in Belgrade, when they beat Fenerbahce 85-80 with a stellar performance from now NBA Rookie sensation, Luka Doncic.
Real Madrid managed to keep their experienced players for many years now and they have a lot of homogeneity between their players. In the regular season, Real Madrid finished third with a 22-8 record. They won many games without their main point guard, Sergio Llull, and looks like they found the rhythm without their playmaker. In the Final Four, he will be fully fit, like all Real Madrid roster, and he will bring his playmaking and scoring skills to an already well-established lineup. The depth and the experience will play a key factor in this big game against CSKA.
CSKA Moscow – The Russian team are second placed in the most wins in Euroleague history with 7 titles. They finished second in 6 occasions. Their last success was in the 2015-2016 season when they beat Fenerbahce in a high scoring game, 101-96 on German soil, in Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin. The MVP of the Final Four was Nando de Colo. In the final, he finished with 22 points, 7 assists and 3 steals. Other wins for CSKA were registered in the 2005-2006 season and in 2007-2008.
CSKA Moscow has a very good and deep roster that includes two of the best guards in Europe, Nando de Colo and Sergio Rodriguez. They finished second the regular season with a 24-6 record. For CSKA Moscow the Final Four location from this year suits perfectly. In the last games, they beat Baskonia 3-1 at overall after winning the last two games exactly here, in Fernando Buesa Arena.
This match will be, without any doubts a very intense one and will keep all the basketball fans on the edge of their seats. Good luck to both teams and may the best team win.
