Gran Canaria with the first chance to reach Spanish playoffs

After being down, on the last places of the Spanish league a couple of months ago, Gran Canaria has regained power. They had an amazing second half of the season, including the qualifiers to the semifinals of the Eurocup. Now they are at one step left to reach the playoffs in Liga Endesa. The last rounds were very well managed, with 4 wins from 5 games played, while the last one against Euroleague powerhouse, Valencia Basket counted the most.

Gran Canaria showed determination and collective effort at the right time and now they are the favourites to take the last available spot for the playoffs. I am sure the turning point was the reconciliation between coach Porfirio Fisac and captain Javier Beiran. Since that moment the squad is working on a different level and even if they had some injuries and covid absences, they did a great job saving a bad start of the season.

The Canarian team had for the last round the easiest game against the underdog Real Betis, while their opponents like Unicaja Malaga, MoraBanc Andorra much difficult games. Malaga will receive Real Madrid and Andorra has a difficult game at Joventut, then another match against Gipuzkoa.

It is interesting that at this moment in Spain all 3 Eurocup participants are fighting for the last spot of the playoffs which says a lot about how balanced is this league.
