Joventut Badalona took the right decision resting Tomic and Ribas at Unics Kazan
Signing ex-Barcelona Ante Tomic and Pau Ribas in summer was for Joventut Badalona a good investment. They took experience and leadership qualities to their new team. Both are actually the main weapons for the Catalans and the season started perfectly: Joventut is unbeaten after 4 rounds in Eurocup and in the Spanish league they are occupying the 4th spot with 5-2. Recently they won with a lucky shot Baskonia.
After this win, the club decided to travel to Russia without Tomic and Ribas, which I consider a great decision and a good example to follow for other teams in the same circumstances because:
- Joventut Badalona has a difficult schedule with 3 games in 5 days and the fatigue has to appear sooner or later. Tomic and Ribas are no very young anymore, both with 33 years old and they should be used smartly by the club, preventing pointless injuries.
- Unics is a good team that at home could win against any team in Eurocup. Maybe they would have beaten Joventut anyway, as well with Tomic and Ribas on the court. So, better to rest them for the next games in Liga Endesa, where Joventut should continue the winning path.
- This is one of the longest trips in the Eurocup and the win is not so important for the leader of the group, Joventut. They will qualify anyway probably from the 1st or the 2nd spot. Better to save energy and improve the chemistry between the younger players of the team.
