Mario Chalmers helped Nanterre to win the game
When you read this article you will start to ask yourselves if Mario Chalmers belongs to Virtus Bologna or to Nanterre. Last night in the 1st leg of the quarterfinals of the Basketball Champions League, the ex-NBA champion made some stupid plays that sink the possibilities for Virtus Bologna to win the game. He was fouled out in less than 15 minutes, but this wasn’t his best move. Not even the technical fouls received!
But let’s see the true facts. At the end of the 2nd quarter with 30 seconds and an entire possession left, Mario Chalmers wanted to score quickly, instead of running out the clock. The result? A ridiculous airball with 26 seconds remaining. Why was that necessary? On the next possession of the French team, he fouled Adas Juskevicius on the shot from the 3 point line giving him 3 free-throws. Only this 2 huge mistakes cost Virtus Bologna 5 points at the halftime. In a game lost at 8 points margin.
I think Virtus Bologna needed another type of guard who looks more to pass the ball, a clever guy who helps his teammates, not the opponents. For the 2nd leg which will take place next week in Bologna, I hope Mario Chalmers will learn the lesson and be less chaotic, doing something for his own team.
